
OKX Unveils Open-Standard Payment Protocol for Autonomous AI Agents
OKX, a leading cryptocurrency exchange, has introduced an open-standard payment protocol designed for autonomous AI agents, marking a significant step in the development of infrastructure for machine-to-machine commerce. The Cross-Chain Agent Payments Protocol (APP) is aimed at supporting complex financial interactions between AI agents, enabling them to operate and communicate autonomously.
The APP protocol allows for agent-to-agent payments, recurring payments, and other automated payment arrangements, facilitating negotiations between agents, escrow of funds, and release of funds upon verified task delivery. This framework is built around OKX's self-custodial Agentic Wallet and Payment SDK, with support on X Layer and broader cross-chain implementation.
The launch of APP comes amidst increasing competition to establish payment rails for AI agents, with companies like Google, Coinbase, Visa, and Stripe also making moves in this space. OKX's founder and CEO, Star Xu, emphasized the importance of open protocols for an 'AI-native economy' where agents conduct business independently, preferring cryptocurrency wallets over traditional bank accounts.
OKX is positioning APP as a comprehensive commerce layer, enabling AI agents to query real-time market data, respond to payment requests, and settle transactions automatically.
