A group of Bitcoin enthusiasts has introduced an open-source AI tool called 'The Bitcoin Evidence Base' to address common misconceptions about Bitcoin, including its environmental impact and role in the financial system. The database, developed by Nordic-based Bitcoin education platform Bitcoin Beyond 66, provides evidence-based responses to criticisms about Bitcoin, citing over 22 peer-reviewed research papers.
The Bitcoin Evidence Base aims to offer users quick access to relevant information about Bitcoin mining and related topics, enabling them to share credible responses to social media posts that spread incorrect information about Bitcoin. The tool works by generating evidence-based responses to Bitcoin-related criticisms submitted by users via text or links, and it routinely cites studies that highlight the environmental benefits of Bitcoin, such as a University of Cambridge study that found over 52% of Bitcoin is now mined using renewable energy sources.
The database implements a 'communication playbook' to counter Bitcoin misinformation with empathy and evidence, acknowledging the validity of past criticisms before addressing misconceptions in an educational manner. Users can choose from three tones to respond to criticism: direct, balanced, and soft, and they can also contribute to building the database by sharing relevant papers and website links for review. By providing a credible and accessible source of information, The Bitcoin Evidence Base seeks to promote a more informed discussion about Bitcoin and its role in the financial system.
